Ladies and Gentlemen,
Media are invited to attend a Media Day at Bofors Test Center, BTC, in Karlskoga, Sweden on Wednesday 22 October. The Media Day will take place at the proving range at BTC where a 24-pounder gun will fire at a newly-built section of the Royal Swedish warship Vasa ?s hull. The research project aims to clarify how sea battles during the 17th century were conducted and the effect guns had in sea battles. Briefs presentations and a Q & A session will complement the firing.
The aim of the day is to give a limited number of media:
– Information about the research project ?Vasakanonen? (The Vasa Cannon)
– Opportunities to talk to key personnel involved in the project: Admiral Bertil Björkman, Chairman of Vasa ?s Friends; Dr. Fred Hocker, Director of Research, Vasa Museum; Stefan Krohl, Managing Director, Bofors Test Center, plus the gun crew and the craftsmen who made the cannon.
The programme is scheduled to start at 0945 22 October and end at 1500.
0945: Arrival to BTC gate, participant check in, transportation with bus to range where coffee will be served
1030: Briefing and presentation about the project and programme, Q & A, safety briefing from BTC 1145: Firing at the target ? First shot
1200: Lunch will be served on behalf of the project at the range
1300: Firing at the target
1500: Media Day ends
Travel and Accommodation
Media defray their expenses for travel and accommodation.
A safe area is maintained for media coverage and you will be given a full safety briefing by BTC staff on arrivalboard.
It is advisable to wear sturdy footwear and bring warm waterproof clothes due to October weather in Sweden.
You will be briefed on arrival by the staff as to any restrictions placed upon you visiting BTC.
Formal application for a place must be received by email by 20 October1200 hrs Swedish time. You should send details of which Media outlet you represent as well as your intended travel details and your personal contact information (full names, nationalities, passport numbers, media name, your email addresses and your mobile phone numbers). There are a limited number of places so, should the media interest surpass the number of available places, we reserve the right to prioritise applicants.
